April Blooms And My Tips On Picking Flowers

April showers bring May flowers. Rainy days are my least favorite but it does have a silver lining, beautiful blooms. Picked up these pretty pink ranunculus from my local Whole Foods couple of days ago but can't wait for peony season. I've been getting requests on how I pick my flowers so I thought I would share some tips. I usually go to my local Trader Joes or Whole Foods to pick out my flowers two to three times a week. Costco is also great if you have one near you, they have a great selection of blooms. I usually have a color and type of flower in mind when picking out flowers for the week. Some days there are fresh flowers and other days there aren't so the key is to be patient. It's important to check the flower, especially the stem and petals to make sure there isn't any damage. Another tip is to check the bottom of the flower where the sepal is to see if any petals are missing or have been removed. Sometimes florists will pick off the dead petals to make the flowers appear fresh. I also check the leaves to make sure they're not dry, because it's an indication that they're dehydrated and will most likely die in a few days. I would also suggest asking questions and speaking with the florist to see which days flowers arrive so you can pick when they're fresh. Happy flower picking!

Love, Sharon
